Do Balanchine dancers never put their heels down or?

^Pretty much actually
He believed that dancers would move quicker and with greater economy of movement if they didn’t plie fully and “waste time” putting their heels down, so to speak. Balanchine was all about a female’s ability to make pointe work look natural, to move quickly and look light.
He also preferred ballerinas with short Achilles for this reason—they never “sank” into their plie, and tended to move quicker as a result.
‘Course, being trained Vaganova and having a short Achilles tendon, my life was hell. But I guess Balanchine would have been into it.
